Rio Vista is a city located in the eastern end of Solano County, California, on the Sacramento River, in the Sacramento River Delta region witha population of approximately 4,900.  Often called "the Gateway to the Delta", Rio Vista is approximately 60 miles northeast of San Francisco.

Rio Vista gained Notoriety in 1985 when visited by a lost Humpback whale who was lost some 60 miles upriver from the Pacific Ocean. The young whale, nicknamed "Humphrey", attracted throngs of curiosity seekers before he was eventually guided back to sea by rescuers. Again in May 2007, Humpbacks were sighted in Rio Vista and even further north in West Sacrmento. "Delta" and "Dawn," mother and calf, stopped at least twice in the river near the town.

  One of the towns special housing developments is called Trilogy which is ideally located at the North/West end of town - closest to Fairfield.  Trilogy is a Community for those 55+.  Trilogy boasts a challenging public 18 hole championship golf course and a state-of-the-art Clubhouse with 20 foot high ceilings and a massive stone fireplace which is a local gathering point - as well as the Billiard room. The Vista Club also is high-tech, housing its own Cyber Cafe, where one can enjoy their morning capiccino while checking the internet's local news, before heading off to play a round of golf.  There is also a heated lap pool the latest modern excersise equipment. 

Rio Vista is also very close to the Napa Valley wine country, easily accessible for a day-trip of wine tasting being only 30 minutes to Napa proper.

The median household income is $44,534 in a town that is 88% Caucasian, 5% Hispanic, 2% Asian, 1% African American, and 4% Other.

Rio Vista is home to the largest American producer of the Belgian Endive vegetable in the USA and resident notable Craig Breedlove, five-time world land speed record holder, lives and has an engineering facility in the city.  Rio Vista is home to the annual Bass Festival in October.
